En este museo hay salas de ecología, geología, paleontología, arqueología e historia regional, con temas como la conquista española, la Guerra del Pacífico, el período salitrero y el surgimiento urbano. Además el museo ofrece servicios al público de Biblioteca, Cine museo, exposiciones temporales, entre otros.
